Dance

Mrs. C. Navarro-Whitehead  (Dance Co-ordinator)

The Dance department aims to motivate, inspire and educate students in the skills of performing, choreographing and appreciating Dance.

Units of work are devised to excite students, encouraging good team work and original creative work to be produced.  Although Dance lessons are practically based, students view professional works in lessons and use them as a tool to develop choreographic and appreciation skills.

Extra Curricular Opportunities in Dance

There is something for everyone at Formby High School with regards to extra-curricular Dance opportunities.  Lower School Dance Club is open to everyone in years 7, 8 and 9 and Upper School Dance Club hosts years 10, 11 and sixth form students.  Each club runs weekly and students get diverse experience in performing.   Masterclasses are also run on Wednesday evenings and Wednesday lunchtimes, these are led by an outside practitioner and aim to progress and develop students who are particularly gifted in dance and performing.

We also have a very strong and well established Boys’ Dance Club which is led by a break dancing, body popping, robotics specialist.

Regular theatre trips are organized so that students get the chance to view a variety of professional and amateur dance companies.  These very often are linked with a workshop led by company members.

Developing Dance is a key initiative at Formby High School. It promises to be a very exciting subject with lots of new opportunities opening up.
