At Formby High School three computer rooms are dedicated to the provision of Information & Communication Technology.  All students from Year 7 up to and including Year 9 have timetabled Information & Communication Technology lessons.  All students continue to study the subject at G.C.S.E. or GNVQ level in Years 10 and 11 and have an opportunity to choose BTEC ICT for Practitioners at KS5.

Key Stage 3

In Years 7, 8 and 9, students will study the subject for 1 hour per week.  They will become increasingly independent and discerning users of ICT.  Students will engage in increasingly complex tasks that will require understanding of a variety of software programs (D.T.P., wordprocessing, multimedia, spreadsheet, database, control and web authoring software).  Throughout the Key Stage they will be asked to make judgements about the quality and reliability of the topics they have developed.

Key Stage 4

The GCSE or CiDA course in Information & Communication Technology will provide opportunities for students to develop an awareness of the nature and importance of I.C.T. in a rapidly changing society.  The specification requires the production of several projects based upon specific themes.  Students will be expected to become familiar with the function of a variety of hardware devices.  Software such as word processing, database, spreadsheet, and desk top publishing packages are applied in the completion of this work.

Key Stage 5

Students choosing the ‘BTEC I.C.T. for Practitioners’ will develop skills such as collecting, analyzing and interpreting data, communicating findings in different ways and identifying opportunities for the use of I.C.T. across industry, commerce and private sectors.

Students will follow a programme of study that enables progression to both higher education and employment within I.C.T.
