Design & Technology Mr. M.J. Bell
Mrs. G. Dixon "Design and Technology is about creating and improving as well as using and controlling the things around us in order to meet our needs". Key Stage 3 Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 study Key Stage 3 of the National Curriculum in Technology. This subject area includes within it much of what used to be taught as Woodwork, Metalwork, Technical Drawing, Design, Home Economics and Textiles. It continues to provide and use the skills associated with those subjects, encouraging students to use a wide variety of materials and processes, providing students with life skills as well as enabling them to cope with the demands of GCSE courses. Both the design folder work and practical outcomes are of equal importance and assessed accordingly. The course content is delivered through a series of integrated themes enabling a systematic and progressive coverage of coursework. There is a common thread running through the subject - the solving of problems through logical sequence of events (the design process), necessitating a disciplined and orderly approach to coursework At the same time the development and use of creative thinking towards a satisfactory solution is encouraged. Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11) Students are able to choose from the three Design and Technology courses on offer at GCSE level: Design & Technology: Graphic Products Design & Technology: Resistant Materials Design & Technology: Food Technology Product Design is a popular and very successful choice at 'A' level for all students. |
